Local Counsel Representation
Often, the most highly respected attorneys are called to try a case in a jurisdiction with which they are not familiar and in which they are not members of the bar. This situation calls for hiring local counsel to both assure access to the courts and ease the transition into an unfamiliar court system. Pietragallo’s attorneys frequently serve as local counsel for out-of-state attorneys in litigation matters in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and West Virginia.Due to the firm's vast trial experience in state and federal courts, we can serve as the best local counsel on behalf of parties that need to bring suit or have been sued in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio and West Virginia. As local counsel, our attorneys are able to assist out-of-state lead counsel in litigating a wide variety of complex cases, including patent infringement disputes, trademark disputes, antitrust disputes, white collar criminal cases, health care fraud cases, securities fraud cases, insurance and risk management disputes, products liability litigation, employment disputes, and commercial disputes.
In one recent case, our attorneys served as local counsel for a multi-billion-dollar semi-conductor manufacturer who found itself sued in federal court in Philadelphia. Our attorneys played an active role throughout the litigation, providing both substantive legal counsel and logistical support. When the case headed to trial, we gladly allocated attorneys, office space, equipment, and support staff to the trial team. Our support allowed lead counsel to focus their efforts on winning the trial, and saved the client tens of thousands of dollars in fees and expenses. After a three-week trial, the jury returned a verdict in favor of our client. Lead counsel commented that, because of the support provided by our attorneys, this was the best experience he has ever had trying a case outside of his own state.
