Joseph E. Vaughan
JOSEPH E. VAUGHAN is a partner in the Risk Management, Workers’ Compensation and Construction Practice Groups of Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP and based in the firm’s West Chester office.
Mr. Vaughan focuses his practice on risk management and workers’ compensation matters. He also handles insurance coverage and insurance defense. Mr. Vaughan has extensive experience in defending insurance carriers, third-party administrators and self-insureds in workers’ compensation matters, as well as counseling various business organizations in risk assessment, management and finance. He has represented municipal solid waste haulers before a congressional committee’s investigation of the use of non-waste vehicles for the interstate transportation and disposal of municipal solid waste and has successfully argued patent matters before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Mr. Vaughan counsels employers in developing risk management, safety, return-to-work and other related programs, policies and procedures. In addition to litigation support, a significant portion of his practice is devoted to assisting clients and developing strategies to prevent matter from reaching litigation.
He is lead counsel to a national pre-cast concrete supplier and general contractor for whom he is responsible for national litigation involving owners, architects and subcontractors. He provides contract negotiation and employment counseling services to his construction clients. He also has successfully negotiated resolution of FLSA actions involving multiple job classifications and years of service.
Mr. Vaughan is a regular speaker and contributor to the Pennsylvania Self Insureds Association, and has spoken for the National Constitution Center on the interplay between workers’ compensation, Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He has also addressed industry groups on the occupational hazard of MRSA. He is co-chair of the Chester County Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section.
Mr. Vaughan received his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law and earned his B.S. from the University of Scranton.
He is licensed in Pennsylvania and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Southern District of Florida and Eastern District of Arkansas, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Third, Eleventh and Federal Circuits.
